Meet Lisa Veldran
Candidate for District 10 Alder
Madison Common Council

I'm Lisa Veldran, and I’m running to represent you as the District 10 Alderperson on the Madison Common Council. As a practical and dedicated leader, I understand the issues that affect your daily life, and I’m committed to listening to your concerns. I will be a strong voice for District 10 residents, making sure your priorities are heard and acted upon on the Council floor.

As a longtime Madison resident, I care deeply about our community. I will work to ensure our city budget is fiscally responsible, advocate for housing stability, and uphold the high standards we expect from essential public services. This campaign is about getting real and tangible results for our neighborhoods.

For me, politics is not about party loyalty or personal interests - it's about ensuring every Madisonian, from children to seniors, has the opportunity to live a happy and fulfilling life. I bring the same dedication to public service that I’ve applied to raising my family, contributing to my community, and working for the City of Madison.

It would be an honor to serve as your District 10 Alderperson. I will work tirelessly for a transparent, accountable government that truly serves the people.

Lisa

  • Resident of southwest Madison for over 30 years, 28 years in Meadowood

  • Married to Matt, two adult children Lily and Max who attended Madison Public Schools (Orchard Ridge, Toki, Spring Harbor and Memorial High Schools)

    • Served as Co-President of the Orchard Ridge Elementary School PTO

    • Served as Leader of Girl Scout Troop #2590​

    • Served as parent liaison to Memorial High School Lacrosse Program

  • Retired Common Council Staff and Legislative Manager for the City of Madison​

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from UW-Madison (Go Bucky!)

  • Current Area Representative and former President of Meadowood Neighborhood Association (MNA)

    • Was instrumental in the development of the South West Madison Community Organizers group that focused on violence prevention in partnership with Madison-Dane County Public Health Department

    • Started Southwest Community Farmers Market in partnership with Robert Pierce and nearby neighbors

  • Board Member, Friends of Meadowridge Library - Current Secretary

  • Attends Blackhawk Church, serves in grief support and community group activities

ISSUES

City Budgeting

  • I support sustainable budgeting practices by utilizing long-term budget assessments and budget stress testing

  • I will communicate to District 10 residents throughout the year about the health of the city’s finances

  • Require in-depth quarterly reports from departments be sent to all alders

Housing

  • Develop a comprehensive inventory of current housing stock

  • Preserve existing housing stock and safeguard affordable housing

  • Examine historical solutions to today’s housing shortage issue (example: post WWII housing shortages were tackled with the Federal Emergency Housing Act)

  • Look at creating home ownership opportunities that act as a source of generational wealth for those that have been locked out of access

Transportation

  • I support expanding transportation options throughout Dane County, not just in Madison - City taxpayers should not be the ones to solely bear the costs

  • I will keep District 10 residents informed of the real costs and impacts in their lives associated with any new transportation expenditures
